Hours

Mr. Bones is now permanently closed. We thank all our loving customers for letting us feed you good food for almost 30 years. We truly wish we could say goodbye to all of you and thank you individually. We have watched AMI grow and change. Our children were born on the island and it was our home for many years. We look forward to retirement, and again, we thank everyone for loving our food and weird funky atmosphere since 1991.

A lot has changed in the way Americans eat since we opened in 1992. As a family owned and operated restaurant, it is our goal to offer enough variety so large groups and families with diverse eating habits can get together in one place for a memorable meal.  Meat-eaters, of course, are drawn to Mr. Bones for our world famous BBQ ribs, pulled pork, and BBQ chicken.  All 5 of our sauces are made in house and we even bottle and sell our original BBQ sauces and hand-mixed dry rub in the restaurant.

We have a pet peeve about restaurants that claim their food is “homemade,” or made from “scratch.” Have you ever noticed how restaurant sauces and soups taste the same? That’s because they are the same, bought from the same supplier.  A packet or tub is opened, water is stirred in, and it’s called “made from scratch.”

Although we do use suppliers for our basic staples, our potatoes, yams, and fresh coriander, for example, don’t come into the restaurant in cans, jars or readymade tubs.  Bones food is homemade—and it’s no surprise to our customers, because they can taste it.

Knowing that some of our vegan customers will put a rib restaurant under particular scrutiny, we take special care with our vegan dishes. This care includes buying, when possible, organic and local ingredients. Or, like soaking and seasoning our own black bean recipe, and using organic quinoa as one of our binders for the black bean burgers. Just as we ask our customers with allergies to inform us when they order, we ask our vegan customers to let us know so we can take every needed precaution in the kitchen when preparing their meals.

Times change, eating habits change. But families and friends always want to share good food in the company of one another.  It is our mission at Mr. Bones to give you a place where this can happen.
